Our Story

American Commerce Bank started in West Georgia in October of 2004 as Peoples Community National Bank. In an effort to better personify the bank's mission to cater to the needs of owner managed businesses, on February 1, 2015, Peoples Community National Bank became American Commerce Bank.  The bank recently increased its market share by acquiring a bank in Tallahassee, Florida and starting a branch in Johns Creek, GA. “We are growing,” says American Commerce Bank President and CEO Larry Mathews.  “Our plan is to maintain a strong bank that will make a better partner for our customers.”

On June 1, 2015, American Commerce Bank completed the acquisition of ProBank of Tallahassee, a Florida state-chartered bank with two locations within the capitol city.  ProBank then merged into American Commerce Bank whose corporate headquarters are located in Bremen, GA.

According to bank officials, American Commerce Bank was attracted to the college town of Tallahassee, home to both Florida State and Florida A&M University, due to its vibrant market for loans and the more than doubling of the city’s population since 2010.  In January of 2015, ProBank had approximately $45.8 million of total assets, $27.6 million of loans and $39.8 million of deposits.

"We are excited to become part of the Tallahassee community,” said Mathews who continued to say that the bank had further plans for growth in Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.  “We want to capitalize on solid opportunities in the southeast where good banks are for sale.”

The bank has recently expanded into the Atlanta metro area starting a new branch in the Johns Creek community.  "Johns Creek holds a lot of potential for American Commerce Bank as the 10th largest city in Georgia and the fastest growing metropolitan region in the United States," said Mathews.  "The area is flourishing with new businesses of all sizes that match with the business offerings we have developed for owner managed businesses."

According to Mathews, American Commerce Bank has seen tremendous growth since June 30, 2012.  “In a quick three years, American Commerce Bank has nearly tripled its assets, grown loans by over $90 million, and is one of the best capitalized banks in the state of Georgia.”

American Commerce Bank focuses on providing tailored solutions that meet the needs of owner managed businesses.  By focusing its efforts on a specific target market, American Commerce Bank is able to design product offerings that will make a difference for small to medium sized business owners looking for creative solutions to expand their operations.
